Stories!! I am a dirty old man too and want to hear them. Not really. A little kindness goes a long way. Lots of us were "immoral", when in reality we were just easing into marriage. Without the rules I would have taken in, cared for, cherished, and valued a certain girl sooner. THEIR so called spirituality had/has little or nothing to do with the success of this marriage.

committees
by dogisgod ini have had some conversations with ex-jw women and i am more than a little concerned at how, if a female, is treated in committee meetings.
it sure seems (i experienced this when i was young) that the elders have a commonality in trying to create such shame and sexual guilt (especially where none is deserved) that it is beyond abuse.
i know there are a lot of former elders here.

The fear is not of apostates, most of can reason on our own. The fear is being found out; leading to loss of family, friends, and we do worry about the pain our leaving can give to still in ones.
There is also a fear of being 'poor" because of not planning better for something that wasn't ever coming.
The realization of death, not so much in itself, but the worry about the loved ones who may need us. And there is always something I want to do.
I did get a decent retirement if not extravagant, and always maintained life insurance for the family, wife in particular.

Cold weahter was baking and cooking time so there were pies, fudge, cakes and all that time. Poor (relatively) people buy seasonal foods so there was the ham, turkey, roast or whatever, and if you do not take advantage of the few times when the whole family is not working, you miss any get together.
Later my best friend would have me over, his mom did things like giving a gift anyway, having me help decorate the tree. Even kept me out of trouble a couple times when over imbibed.
Mom was not too strict, nor Dad. I suspect they knew things were not all quite right even way back then. I went to a few birthdays, trick or treated a bit, but the one year a wealthy witness relative was having a New Year party at the hall she owned and let them use for a kingdon hall they declined.
This is still a lonely time for a lot of people, no matter. I did have loving parents, was given a good work ethic and well grounded in American midwest culture, the good parts of it.

Do you or did you experience too much intrusion into your personal life by the elders in your congregation?
by UnshackleTheChains ini ask this question because i have personally experienced first hand the control and intrusion into my personal life by the elders at our hall; and for virtually trivial things or non issues!
what's more, i regularly hear of individuals moving to other halls because they were stumbled by the thought police....er, i mean these elders.. have you had any such experience?
have your elders been a bit ott over trivialities?.

had one who would call like clockwork after every bookstudy, interrupting; he knew. When young it was a given on any trip including to conventions, morners, nooners, and the whole shebang.
it is amazing how much others "know".
Ours has been good, only ever each other; which works well. foreplay is up to your imagination

Attendents sit at the best seats
by Quarterback inwell it's been awhile since i got angry and wanted to post on here again.
last week's watchtower about the subject of love had something to say about the hard working attendants.
it seems that they are choosing to sit in the best seats at the convention.

men sit on the end to control their family!! back when I had to find a seat where I could see and respond to my section, and my family belongs with me. I have seen attendants saving the whole rows with mags though. Hey! with fewer mags what are we going to deo?

backhanded compliment to Sunday speaker
by road to nowhere ina couple years ago we had a speaker, better than average, give the talk.
since i was still pretty much a believer, i commented to him how i enjoyed the talk, and how it was "entertaining".
it was, but he got mad as it was one of the beat the fear of god (governing body) into you talks.

It was, but he got mad as it was one of the beat the fear of god (governing body) into you talks. I wasn't doing anything of the things mentioned, so had no guilt; but he apparently wanted everyone to do a repentance and "march to the altar" or something
